"Downtown" is exactly what most of the residents of Ashton don't want. We want the development of a "village," not a "town"... especially if any part of it could be designated as either "up" or "down." Look at the small villages of Germany or England: a village square, a fountain, a pub, a cafe, small grocery store, coffee shop, post office, pharmacy, etc. Make it a place of beauty, charm and uniqueness... the envy of the county.

I'm a relatively new resident of Ashton (5 years) and I think the AMP would be a real asset to our community. I saw the plans at one of the many open houses and was very impressed with the developer's proposal. This project would give "downtown" Ashton a true sense of place and would likely become a social center for our town.

The Route 29 corridor is one of the last swaths of land ready for commercial development in Montgomery County. I think we should be extra cautious to make sure the area looks outstanding and isn’t littered with strip malls.

Downtown can remain the central core with taller buildings than are there now but the other areas up route 29, should really focus on strong a town center style with a very strong architectural character, right now it’s non-descript.

I don't think "progress" is the correct word to describe Ashton Mall. This type of density is meant for places like Cloverly and Burtonsville, not rural Ashton. There are supermarkets only a few miles away. The intent of the master plan was to create a rural village, not a urban hub. The developers should not waste time and money pushing a project that would transform Ashton into a corner strip mall.
