If the Farm Road landowners are still looking for a place to live while the Sandy Spring dispute continues, why not take up residence in house Kanstoroom has owned in Olney for over five years but has left abandoned while weeds grow to the windows, tree branches sag with overgrowth, fences lay broken and unrepaired, and until recently, raccoons enjoyed as a winter retreat? And all this decay to the dismay of the homeowners’ association and residents in the neighborhood.

Although I'm still learning about the candidates for the D-4 County Council seat, Kanstoroom is certainly not on my list! All this talk about Kanstoroom's advocacy for landowners’ rights, yet he himself is neglectful property owner. I can’t help but draw the same conclusions as another anonymous poster regarding the possibility that this candidate may be exploiting issues for his own political interests.

Do not trust Steve Kanstoroom! Check out his house at 4521 Thornhurst Drive in Olney. He has owned this house for 5 years, left it vacant, it is filled with junk, the backyard is a pigsty, it has a huge overgrown tree, the fence is rotted and collapsing, there are raccoons in the attic, there are always newspapers in the driveway, and the bushes surrounding the house are overgrown. He was taken to court last year for this neglect and he signed an agreement that he would have this home cleaned up and have renters in it by January 1, 2008. This house is still vacant! He also does not pay his homeowners dues! He has his nose in everyone else's business but can't tend to his own! Hypocrisy at it's finest!

Perhaps you think people will overlook the fact that he's helped thousands successfully deal with FEMA when FEMA makes it very difficult for folks to get what they deserve.

Doesn't anybody question how Mr. Kanstoroom can be an effective representative of a community in which he has inserted himself in legal actions that pit residents against residents? He is exploiting the Farm Road controversy for his own political reasons without regard to the rights of the landowners where this "road" is located. We need a representative who is motivated by the best interests of the community and its members, not one who looks for ways to glorify himself as an advocate for the downtrodden where the facts don't support it.

I find myself also having to express a certain amount of admiration for Mr Kanstoroom.

He has dedicated a lot of time to public common interest causes, and seems willing to spend his own money to do it. His focus on openness and accountability in governance is highly laudable and I suspect that's the last thing that could possibly interest most Montgomery Democrat politicians.

If his evident predilection for fighting the powers-that-be long survives getting sworn into office, that would be a definite positive force towards change on the Council.

Then again, I too would be a definite positive force towards change on the Council.

In particular, I really like his focus on the Schools, which may or may not be turning into a nearly-independent feifdom with extremely murky finances. Steve Kanstoroom wants to know, as do I and so very many others, what are they spending our money on?

I had never met Steve Kanstoroom before this campaign. He is by far the best Democrat in the race. He is almost as good as Mark Fennel.

He is honest, smart, independent and successful. He will look for waste in the budget like nobody's business. He would vote against exceeding the charter property tax limit. He is compassionate. He has two daughters, aged 8 and 5 that I would like to adopt. In short, he is the Democrat I would have liked to invent, but there he is in person! nzhnlxnr
