"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" Matthew 7:3
An amazing thing happened yesterday. Legislators from Baltimore and Prince George's County, from Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore, put aside their struggling schools, their neighborhoods ravaged by the foreclosure crisis, their unemployed constituents, and (in the case of Prince George's) increasing crime to focus on whether two people deserve to have their love and commitment to one another accepted by the state.
Congratulations. I know it must be really hard to do your job while pushing ignorant, self-satisfied, bigoted crap, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices. I am [half-]black. I am Christian. But today, I'm ashamed.

It's only a matter of time, but still sad that time wasn't today. Christians and African Americans should be the first in line to support equal rights and it's sad that they're blind to the blatant hypocrisy of their positions.
I'm from Oxon Hill/Fort Washington originally. I wish with all my heart and soul that the same local ministers who are stirring their flocks to pressure Annapolis on this issue would apply some of that same power to critical every day issues. Crime/safety. Schools. Local environmental quality. Investment in infrastructure, like roads and waterlines. Local businesses. Improve our day to day lives, don't rant and rave over something that is biased against a group of people who aren't hurting anyone. Help ALL of us, rather than hurting a few. Isn't that theoretically what community and faith is supposed to be about?
Jag2923, well stated. I strongly agree.
My own take - it's real simple!
Against same-sex marriage? Don't enter into one!
And if you are a member of the clergy of a faith that does not approve of same-sex marriage, then don't perform such wedding ceremonies.
