A bus stop on New Hampshire Avenue in White Oak.- It's a big week for White Oak: on Tuesday, the County Council holds a public hearing on whether or not to partially fund the White Oak Transit Center, which will create a centralized bus terminal for many of the Metrobus and Ride-On routes serving East County. It'll eventually be located at the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and Lockwood Drive, several hundred yards from the Food and Drug Administration campus. The hearing will take place at 1:30pm at the Council Office Building in Rockville.
- And on Wednesday, award-winning crime novelist (and Silver Spring resident) George Pelecanos comes to the White Oak Library to discuss (and sign) his new book The Way Home, which will also be available for sale. That'll happen at 7pm at the library, located near the corner of New Hampshire and Route 29.
- Councilmember Nancy Navarro (D-Colesville) was sworn-in last week. Check out the video of the ceremony at the County Council's website.
- Sometimes, it's good to get out of East County. I haven't gotten a chance to yet, but I'm definitely checking out Artomatic, the huge annual unjuried art show going on as we speak at 55 M Street, SE, a yet-to-be occupied office building near Nationals Park. It'll be open five days a week (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) through July 5.
