UPDATE: Well, that was fast. SoCo Eats says 8407 will open for lunch tomorrow at 11:00am.
- Last week, SoCo Eats suggested that Ceviche on Ellsworth has closed for good, and after days of confusion, Jennifer Nettles - manager of the Downtown Silver Spring complex in which the Latin restaurant and bar ("home of the $9 empanada") was located - has an answer. "They have chosen to close," writes Nettles. "We are hoping to have a new restaurant in the location shortly."
- If you need a job and can fry chicken wings, the restaurant/drafthouse in the former Silver Spring Fire Station (now called "Fire Station 1") is hiring. Come by tomorrow and Friday between 10am and 4pm to MontgomeryWorks' job recruitment center, located at Wheaton Plaza. (Thanks again to SoCo Eats for the heads-up.)
- On Friday, Whole Foods hosts an in-store charity event to benefit the Whole Planet Foundation, a nonprofit group that supports microfinancing in developing countries. A $10 donation gets you in the door for live music, a silent auction with stuff from local businesses, but more importantly, samples - because isn't that the best part of going to Whole Foods? Donate $15 and you'll get a coupon for 10% off your next purchase at Adega Wine. The event's from 5 to 7pm at Whole Foods, located of course at Fenton and Wayne.
- You like the song "Rock Creek Park"? Do you remember it? See The Blackbyrds (best known for the 1975 hit named for, and written about inappropriate relations in, the thing that keeps Bethesda safely at arm's length) for two shows this Friday at 8 and 10:15pm. The whole second floor on Ellsworth is a tough sell. Besides the steps, which serve as seating for people watching, I feel like they should develope the second floor as apartments.
HaHaHa, that song is hilarious! On one of our very first dates my husband and I went to Blues Alley to hear Donald Byrd. His set was a little more jazz oriented than that song is. Not much, but a little. He used to be one of the best hard bop trumpeters out there. Did you know that the original Blackbyrds were a bunch of his students? And he had them singing that! I guess I'm still too immature to think that's anything other than funny!

There are days when I thank the heavens for that Park. The day my rent is due in Silver Spring, for instance...or when I have to pay to park in a garage or at a meter.
DAmn, was hoping Ceviche would bounce back as I always liked it there despite it being a little pricey. Melanie's comment about it being apartments is a nice idea but then , its probably pretty loud outside your window and Ellsworth can be obnoxious at times...
