car country

Tamana & Adrienne Walk Back To The Car
A few weeks ago, my friends and I went to a festival at Linganore Winecellars, a winery (duh) in Mount Airy. (It's funny how much time I've spent in and around Frederick this month.) Thousands of people came out to enjoy wine and Caribbean music, and all of them arrived by car, covering the winery's non-productive fields with parking.

The result looks like something the Coalition for Smarter Growth would use for an anti-sprawl campaign. (If they want to, the photos are available on Flickr with a Creative Commons license.)

Traffic Jam
The line to get out. You wonder if the commute to work is like this for people who live out here. (This is the flipside to the cozy urbanity of downtown Frederick.)

So you did not take public transportation to Frederick?

I guess there is still a place for those who drive cars.

The very idea of public transportaion and biking and walking everywhere seems to be unreasonable in some cases.

One could ride a bike to frederick or if they left early enough they could walk and get to the winery before it closes.

Oh the pleasures of walking and biking.
