bethesda's such a cheater

BUT FIRST: Downtown Silver Spring booster Susan Hoffmann is the new "mayor" of Silver Spring, according to DCist. Unlike former "mayor" Norman Lane, Susan is not homeless, though I believe she lives in Rockville, where she served on the Rockville City Council. I'm not sure if that's better than homeless.

The super-snoots at Bethesda Magazine may claim The Birchmere, Gifford's - and hell, even Poolesville - for themselves, but there's one thing they can't take from Silver Spring: our very own Restaurant Week, less than two weeks away. From February 5th until the 11th, you'll be able to enjoy a three-course dinner at many local restaurants (including Red Rock Canyon Grill, also claimed by Bethesda) for only $22. If you're not a starving college student, that's a pretty good deal.

LAUREL MALL UPDATE, or SOMEWHERE, GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN P.G.: Residents on the County line will soon get to see the future of Laurel Mall at a special presentation next Tuesday at the Laurel Municipal Center on Sandy Spring Road in Laurel. The redevelopment of the moribund mall - first brought to you by Just Up The Pike last month - will be managed by General Growth Properties (also involved in the redevelopment of Columbia Town Center).

If that's not enough Redeveloped-Route 1 glory, check out this plan for the revitalization of Beltsville and South Laurel, the result of a lengthy charrette held last October. Between this and everything going on in College Park, North Prince George's County could look wildly different in just a few years.

And then, it will be claimed by Bethesda Magazine as well.

The New MoCoProgressive is not just crime, crime, crime. It's also hate, hate, hate. Its author, for some reason, has completely lost his mind on the issue of undocumented immigrants. Would you link to a blog that spent as much time spewing hate against African-Americans as that blog does against Latinos?

I'm sorry I deleted that part before your comment went up.

As for MoCo Progressive, though . . . well, I don't agree with his latest turn on Latinos, but his/her/its reporting on crime in the County is nothing short of "precise," if not necessarily "accurate."

I don't know... he (I assume it is a he) only seems to be concerned about crime when there is an apparent connection to Latinos.

Hey, I posted that B-town Mag list on Sunday. Am I getting noticed? Regardless, you have good comments. I did notice they included an awful lot of stuff in parts of MoCo that Bethesda rarely associated itself with.

I actually found the article via Other Methods (using Bethesda Magazine to hide other materials while in line at Borders?), but consider yourself noticed: I'll put you on the blogroll.

RE: What the Hell does illegal immigrants got to do with African Americans??????????

It looks like you have a problem with African Americans living in Montgomery County, so you would rather have a bunch of illegal mexican-central american immigrants taking over Montgomery County than African Americans.

I am not supprised that most of you anti- Maryland left wing extremist Democrats are closet racist against African Americans.

Now thats getting real.

Note the Rt 1 plan says "from I-95 to Cherry Lane."

The university is playing obstructionist on Rt 1 in College Park proper b/c they want their own private connector rd.

Re: Mocoprogressive -- there is some good information there if you are interested in the politics of immigration on the local level. I ignore the tone when it goes a bit off the rails.

RE: No, what was obstructionist is that you people continue to sabatoge business/economic/revenue and highway growth in Maryland(especially PG County) because you people know that if Maryland continues to Develop and Build Highways that it will attract businesses to leave from your beloved region of Northern Virginia and move to the free state of Maryland which it would hurt you people to have Northern Virginia to lose it's Business/Revenue/Economic Wealth.

"you people"? US 1 *is*, in principle, a highway, and if you actually knew anything about PG, you'd realize that I'm advocating for the development of Rt 1 up to I-495, which the univ opposes.

your beloved region of Northern Virginia

uhm, whatever.

RE: Whatever? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

You know I'm right.

Like I have said before; anytime someone speaks radical against Highway Building/Massive Development in Maryland but Never criticise the Highway Building and Sprawling Development in Northern Virginia is Definately a person that HATES the MD/DC Suburbs if not the state of Maryland and would rather have the Business, Economic, and Revenue continue to Grow in Virginia.
